Thank you to parents for coming to our Gallery Walk which show cased the advanced learning projects completed by students in our class on scientists, inventors and innovators. All of the students were excited to show and tell about the person they learned about. They all did great job of pulling their projects together in preparation for today. We hope you enjoyed visiting! Following our Gallery Walk students enjoyed our fall celebration. We began the week reading from You Read to Me, I'll Read to You, Very Short Scary Tales by Mary Ann Doberman. During our party students created a scene to support the mood of these short scary tales. They created a night silhouette with glow in the dark bats flying above a pumpkin patch. Students read in pairs to their classmates, and they did this in the dark while their scene of bats and pumpkins glowed behind them.
Another Successful Week!
Mathematics We are continuing our study of arrays to understand properties of multiplication. Students have been representing expressions using objects, pictures and words to develop this understanding. We will continue to develop and broaden our understanding of this topic. Ten Marks: students have been given their login info and their first assignment is due Friday September 16th. If your child would like to do this at home please have them log on to www.tenmarks.com/login through the student login. Students will be given time in class to complete the assignment if needed. English Language Arts We are continuing to develop Daily Five in our classroom. Students learned a strategy to generate a personal narrative and will continue to write personal narratives next week. Our read aloud book, Wonder by Raquel J. Palacio, is a narrative and provides an excellent model for students to learn how to write their own narratives. On Thursdays we spend time with our reading buddies in Miss Snyder's 1st and 2nd Grade class. This is an enjoyable time for both classes! ALP We are beginning our first Advanced Learning Project. For this first project students will study a scientist, inventor or innovator and produce a biography for this person. Students will choose a person to study from a list given to them this week. Some students have already made their choice; some have still to make their choice so please ask your child about this. Below is the list of scientists, inventors and innovators that they can choose from. The rubric that will be used for assessment will be posted next week. ** To model for students the standards and expectations for this project we will be completing a study of Thomas Edison together. More information to follow! **
A Busy and Exciting Start to The Year!We have been very busy establishing our routines and we will continue to do this! Students love our Daily 5 time, Read to Self. Together we established guidelines of how our classroom should look and sound when Read to Self is in session. They are doing a great job at this (because they love this time!).
